French Theatre
In a quiet street in De Pijp, Café Caron easily catches the eye. The place is buzzing and that is not without effort from host Alain Caron. This cheerful television-chef entertains entertains his crowd by joking around, this creates a convivial, hospitable atmosphere. Meanwhile, delicious dishes with a french twist are being prepared in the kitchen. We had roasted and smoked beetroot with a thyme mayonnaise, wild boar cheek with sauerkraut and the marvellous risotto with apricot and ice cream. The dishes are modern, playful and change on a regular basis.
Café Caron is not only named after the Masterchef running the front of house, his two sons David and Tom have been schooled on the ins and outs of running a successful restaurant and play a great part in its success. The open kitchen with cocottes, the oak-family table and cozy lightning. Everything feels like you just stepped into the big brother of family Caron’s dining room. It comes as no surprise that famous actors, fellow-chefs and trend-watching neighbours claimed this venture as their new living room. Out of luck with getting a table? Try grabbing a seat at the bar, a good glass of French and some charcuterie should make the wait bearable.
