Few things are as pleasurable as good food, good company and memorable music to romance your senses – and sometimes the most chaotic experiences can end up being the most memorable. Cape Town’s beloved restaurant/bar The Mess is the perfect venue to have one of those nights, a messy, uncomplicated joyfest in the presence of those you love. The name comes from the 15th century; a ‘mess’ is a group of people congregating to share a meal.

The owner Carlene de Gouveia designed the menu around sharing plates inspired by her travels around the world. This is free reign to the kitchen not to be restricted by a specific cuisine; so delicious tapas, curries and everything in between get fair representation. Standouts to share include the pickled goat cheese, squid and chorizo and the beef tataki.
